Bible Prophecies

EARTHQUAKES,

FAMINES,

and

DISEASE

Four disciples ask about the future . . .

“Now as He (Jesus) sat on the Mount of Olives,
the disciples came to Him privately, saying,
‘Tell us, when will these things be?’
And ‘What will be the sign of Your coming,
and of the end of the Age?’”
(Matthew 24:3)

Here we find the sweeping scope of the prophecies Jesus is about to reveal.

As we study this verse, we find there will be three specific divisions

of the future addressed:

1. “Tell us, when will these things be?”

This question refers to the prophecy Jesus had just given concerning the destruction of the Temple (Matthew 24:2).  We find the prophecies which answer this question reported and outlined in Luke’s report of this prophetic discourse (Luke 19:41-44).

2. “And what will be the sign of Your coming”

This question refers to the signs which will be given and the events which would take place before He returns for His church, “As a thief in the night” (sometimes called the “Rapture”), in order to shelter and protect those who believe in Him and still wait for Him in faith from those awesome and terrible events which will strike the world during that coming period of time Jesus calls the “Great Tribulation.” It is this portion of prophecy we are reviewing here.

3. “And of the end of the age?”

This question refers to the signs and events which would take place before Jesus returns the second time, not as a “thief in the night,” but when every eye “will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” These will be the signs and events that will take place during that period of time Jesus calls the “Great Tribulation.” This upcoming period of time called the “Great Tribulation” is given many names in the Bible and refers to the awesome events which will take place during a 3½ year period of time which represents the last half of a very specific 7 year period of time also known as the “Apocalypse” or the prophetic 70th Week of Daniel (a week of years = 7 years. See Daniel 9:24-). The Book of Revelation (also known as the Book of the Apocalypse) lists and details the awesome and terrible events which will strike suddenly and sweep over the Earth.  You can find studies concerning these prophetic events elsewhere here on this site or in the upcoming book “Time To Test The Bible Prophecies.”

EARTHQUAKES

“Now as He (Jesus) sat on the Mount of Olives,
the disciples came to Him privately, saying,
‘Tell us, when will these things be?’
And ‘What will be the sign of Your coming,
and of the end of the Age?’”
(Matthew 24:3)

“Jesus answered and said to them …
And there will be Earthquakes
in diverse places”
(Matthew 24:8)

“When you SEE
these things, (earthquakes)
know that it is NEAR —
at the DOOR!”
(Mark 13:29)

Most people don’t realize the key element to this prophecy is not just that Earthquakes will be intensifying, but the remarkable thing about this prophecy is when Jesus Christ gave this prophecy concerning the hearing of “earthquakes in diverse places” 2000 years ago, it could only be fulfilled far in the future when there would be global communication technologies such as satellite television, cell phones, and the internet capable of reporting these worldwide events as they happen.

2000 years ago the people living in Jerusalem and Israel (to whom these prophecies were first given) would never have known these earthquakes in “diverse places” had ever taken place.

So, although the world has always had Earthquakes, this Bible Prophecy tells us that as a sign we are entering into “the time of the end,” we will see and hear about them almost immediately, as they increase in frequency and size.

Described as “birth pangs,” these events will increase in size and frequency as signs we are preparing to enter the Apocalypse.

FAMINES

“Now as He (Jesus) sat on the Mount of Olives,
the disciples came to Him privately, saying,
‘Tell us, when will these things be?’
And ‘What will be the sign of Your coming,
and of the end of the Age?’”
(Matthew 24:3)

“Jesus answered and said to them …
 ‘And there will be Famines,’
  (Matthew 24:7)

If you do a study of Famines today, you will find famines often follow war (remember Jesus had also just predicted “Wars and rumors of War” leading up to the coming Apocalypse in this same prophetic passage.  Today, most famines are man-made. Stalin’s communist (socialist) controlled Russia murdered hundreds of thousands of men, women, and children using a man-made famine, and around the world today we can find famines being used as a weapon by one political, religious, or ethnic group against another.

DEADLY DISEASES SPREADING

“Now as He (Jesus Christ) sat on the Mount of Olives,
the disciples came to Him privately, saying,
‘Tell us, when will these things be?’
And ‘What will be the sign of Your coming,
and of the end of the Age?’”
(Matthew 24:3)

“Jesus answered and said to them …
‘And there will be
Deadly diseases (pestilence) spreading'”
(Matthew 24:7)

Just study the news to see the frightening number of new antibiotic resistant, or mosquito-borne, or incurable sexually transmitted diseases which are now spreading rapidly around the world.

Just as with the earthquake prophecy, these prophecies concerning famines and deadly diseases are also remarkable because these Bible Prophecies could only be fulfilled with global communication technologies capable of reporting these things on a world wide scale (see the prophecies concerning ‘Travel and Knowledge’ increasing).

Even though the world has always had famines, diseases, and earthquakes, the Bible warns us that as a sign we are entering into ‘the time of the end’ we will see these things increase in frequency.

Described as “birth pangs,” these pains will continue to grow worse and worse, coming closer and closer together, as signs we are preparing to enter into the time of the coming 7 year Apocalypse.

For this same Bible Prophecy which was given concerning these earthquakes, famines, and deadly diseases also goes on to warn ..

“For then there will be Great Tribulation,
such as has not been
since the beginning of the world until this time,
no, nor ever shall be (the coming “Apocalypse”).
And unless those days were shortened,
no human being (flesh) would be saved”
(Matthew 24:21-22)

The Bible warns here that never in the history of Mankind has there been anything as terrible on Earth as the coming Apocalypse (called here the “Great Tribulation”), when only a small remnant of the world will survive.
